2020 May Covid-19 Update

An update on Covid-19. In Tanzania the first case was recorded on March 16th in Arusha. Today, 5th May, they reported the total number of deaths is 16, none of them in Ngorongoro. The government closed the schools and stopped public gatherings. Our staff have been teaching about Covid-19 preventative measures, safe distancing, hand washing and avoiding gatherings from February. Since gatherings have stopped our classes have stopped and teaching is done via social media, using creative Maasai dramas.

Women in our VICOBA loan groups have been able to continue their businesses from loans as they involve food distribution, but Covid safety measures are taken. Our staff are able to continue working giving phone advice and planning for our new loan programme in Mto wa Mbu and Esilalei wards.

 

We are delighted to be able to tell you that WMI (Women’s Microfinance Initiative) have offered us further funding this year to extend our loan programme once the Covid restrictions are lifted.
