In 2009 the NCAA imposed a ban on the small scale agriculture practised by the Maasai and a 50% reduction in the number of their cattle. At the same time there was a drought. This has led to mass hunger and child deaths due to malnutrition. WTWT gave emergency food to some of the hungriest, the ones without livestock. We then gave goats to these people as a longer term solution. Now we are focusing on education and loans for businesses to enable people to earn enough to feed themselves.
